Denzel Washington told Jake’s Takes in an interview promoting the film “Highest 2 Lowest” that “he doesn’t really care about that kind of thing.”

“I’ve been in this for a very long time. There were times when I won and shouldn’t have won… and times when I didn’t win and should have. Man gives the award, God gives the reward,” he said during the interview.

The star has already won two Oscars, one for Best Actor in “Training Day” in 2002, and another for Best Supporting Actor in “Glory” in 1990. He has also received 10 nominations throughout his career.

He mentioned that he is often asked where he keeps his statuettes.

“People ask: ‘Where do you keep them?’ I say: ‘Next to each other’,” he joked. “It’s not arrogance, it’s just how I feel about it. On my last day, they won’t do me any good!”, he concluded.

Denzel Washington stars in “Highest 2 Lowest,” directed by Spike Lee. The film is a new interpretation of the classic “High and Low” (1963) by Akira Kurosawa. It premieres in theaters on Friday (15).

Although winning awards is not his goal, Denzel Washington’s achievements have been an important milestone for Hollywood.

He became the second Black actor to win in the Best Supporting Actor category, after Louis Gossett Jr.’s victory for “An Officer and a Gentleman,” and the first Black actor to receive two nominations in the category.

The star of “The Book of Eli” also became the first Black actor to win in more than one competitive category, the only one to have won both Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor.
